This is the second of our four modules in this course and focuses on online card payment fraud. In this module we discuss all aspects of ecommerce payment fraud. Online or ecommerce transactions fraud is also known as Card-Not-Present payment fraud. The figure for online payment fraud has become a much bigger number, especially after COVID-lockdowns when everyone had to go online for their essential purchase and pay online. In this module 2 we concentrate on differentiation between card present and card not present fraud. We have different types of fraud that can occur for card present and card not present payment transactions. We also describe three scenarios and how stakeholders are affected by fraudulent activities for online payments. In order to understand the issues with online fraud, we describe main attributes of different techniques used to assess online fraud mitigation technologies. This is followed by showing different techniques used for online fraud techniques. At the end of this course you will be better informed on what the threats are and which tools are available to mitigate and stop fraudulent activities for online payment fraud. You will also be able to make decisions on how to use these techniques on an informed basis.
